Apple Training
Doug,
What was the cost of the training for the 3 staffers? I just ordered 2
iMac 21.5" 3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM
500GB HDD, Nvidia 9400M desktops for faculty. We are treading in
uncharted waters for us. The cost is several hundred $s
more than we pay for a Dell. In the past two years, we have also seen a
large increase in students purchasing MACs.
The MACS must be able to runs Windows in order run our exam software.
Thanks,
Jim

I sent three of my staff to that very course, Ben, back in 2008. It was
clear to me at that time that the influx of Mac-toting students was only
going to increase. This year's 1L class, it's fair to say, is nearly 50%
Macs. We see far fewer problems with these laptops and spend far less
time supporting these students. But they are always appreciative when we
know how to help.
My staff who attended the class all said it was worth the time. I sent
them down the highway to Greensboro to an official Mac training site. It
was a 3-day course, I believe. We did it in July so they could all be
gone at once. No group discounts exist that I'm aware of.
Best,
Doug

I don't think supporting Linux in the most-basic sense is a bad idea,
but I can count the number of times I've helped someone with it on one
hand.
You can't hurt yourself by being familiar with all platforms, either.
Besides, most Linux-toting students are usually affulent enough to fix
their own issues.
