Bulk OCR utility

I scan a ton of documents, but OCR-ing all of them as I go just takes too
long. I would like a utility that I can just point at my directory full of
PDFs, and it will OCR all the PDFs in that directory. That way, I can set it
to run before I go to sleep, or something like that.

Does anyone know of something like this? Free is better, obviously.

Bulk OCR utility

Here is what I know about that:

Vividata OCR-Shop will do this. It runs on Linux from the command line.
We have the scaled down version (txt only, no pdf), and it works very
well. Not cheap.

ABBY also has a command-line app. Runs on Windows, and the price is
based on volume of usage. It costs mega-bucks.

Finally there is Tessaract. It's a Google thing and it's free. In my
experience it is useless.
