Co-location services

Cyndi et al.,

This is a really old thread, and I know I started a newer thread on the
same topic last spring. There may have even been a CALI session on this,
but as I couldn't attend in June thanks to budget cuts, I'm afraid I
lost the plot. I do recall someone from Tulane mentioning what they did
in the wake of Katrina (Emory kindly offered some remote hosting?). So
forgive the repetition, but can folks reply as to what, if any,
co-location services they have in place for DR/Business Continuity? I am
mainly concerned with our internal web servers, since UNC's central IT
unit hosts things like campus email, Blackboard, etc.

Thanks so much,
Doug

RE: Co-location services

Although some internal issues have prevented us from moving forward with
this until next spring, we do plan to stand up a few virtual servers at
the main campus data warehouse. Some of the web sites will move there
but some will stay in-house. One of our sister institution's IT staff
have merged with the law school's IT department; the institution is
located in two buildings separate from the law school. This has helped
somewhat with our DR planning as one is quite a distance away from main
campus and has its own small server farm. If there's a flood in
Albuquerque (ha!) we might have similar issues but for the most part,
just having other servers available for backup restoration is some small
comfort.
