Creating a Drupal distribution

Folks,
As more law schools look to Drupal as a web development platform it
occurs to me that we, as a community, should make use of one of
Drupal's more powerful features to create a Drupal distribution
tailored for law schools. Drupal installation profiles
(http://u.cali.org/9mcz) allow for the creation of distribution that
contains a preconfigured set of modules and themes. I believe we could
work together to create a distribution that would have a set of
features common to law schools. With this distribution any law school
could get Drupal up and running quickly. Think of it as a way to have
the community vet a set of modules and themes that work well together,
saving you time because you don't need to figure out what modules to
use.
I've created a Drupal Group at
http://groups.drupal.org/law-school-distribution to provide a place to
organize this. If you're using Drupal in production I would encourage
you to join the group and lend a hand or just cheer us along. If
you're interested in Drupal you're welcome to join to provide us with
input and learn about Drupal.
I think an achievable goal would be have an alpha version of the
distro ready by CALIcon11 in June so we have something else to talk
about.

What do you think?

Creating a Drupal Distribution

Folks,
Seems like law schools are not sufficiently unique for whoever it is
that moderates Drupal Groups. Sadly, I didn't have any chance to argue
my position before the content was deleted because I was offline most
of the weekend.

Sorry to those of you who joined the group before it disappeared, I
didn't really think ti would get deleted.

I still think the idea is valid and worthy of pursuit. Let's organize
around this thread for the time being, so let me know if your
interested in participating in the group.

Thanks,
Elmer.

Creating a Drupal Distribution

Elmer,

I'd be glad to assist a Law School distribution of Drupal.

It might be helpful to list out any modules and patches that would make this unique.

Fortunate for us, Drupal is now using Git, so forking it for our own purposes will be easy.
