cross reference feature in Word 2007

I have a faculty member who's very frustrated by what she's sure is a
broken feature in Word 2007. The cross reference feature she relied on
heavily in Word 2003 had the ability to update all internal references
to footnotes in any given document, so that when footnote numbers
changed, those citations would get updated automatically. She reports
that this function simply does not work in 2007, which makes updating
numerous cites much more labor intensive. But none of our other faculty
have complained about this since we rolled out Office 2007 last summer.

Have any of your faculty reported this problem? I have never used this
feature and haven't had time to play with both versions of Word to see
it for myself.

Thanks,
Doug

She will just need to press Ctrl-A to select the entire document. Then, press F9. This will update all the references.

cross reference feature in Word 2007

I've been Googling this and am not finding any evidence of this function
being a problem in Word 2007. I did see some reference to the F9 key and
select all. If it's as simple as that, I'll be a happy man and my
faculty member will be even happier.

Thanks, Eric!

RE: cross reference feature in Word 2007

Yeah, I had to go "old school" and actually found a few paragraphs about it in "Word 2007 Inside Out" page 649 this past summer. I also was working with a frustrated faculty member.
