Email from the CALI Cloud

Folks,
Just a heads up that Trend Micro has made the unilateral decision that
the Amazon EC2 Cloud is a den of spammers and thieves and has
blacklisted whole swatches of EC2 IP addresses in its MAPS product.
Attempts to get off the list are being ignored and Amazon is trying to
get the issue resolved. The bottom line is that students, staff, and
faculty using Comcast and several law schools for email are not
getting account verification and password reset emails from CALI.
Needless to say this is making them grumpy and they are sharing the
love with me. If your school is using Trend Micro MAPS to filter out
spam and bad email, please white list cali.org and the ip
174.129.29.17.
If you want to test to see if our website messages are getting through
to your school, visit www.cali.org, hit the "Request new password
link" and have the system send you a message. It should show up
quickly. (You don't need to reset your password, the link in the
message will expire in 24 hours.) If it doesn't show up, let me know,
and check your spam filters.

Thanks,
Elmer.

Although I can whitelist an IP for our law school email server, that won¹t
do our students any good since they are on Gmail through the main campus and
it is virtually impossible to get either of them to whitelist an IP. Have
you considered relaying through a trusted smtp host?

Email from the CALI Cloud

Michael,
Gmail isn't a problem, they aren't blocking our email.
While relaying through a trusted host is an option, it costs money and
time to look after. We are already paying Amazon for a static IP that
is not supposed to have any restrictions on it, and I don't want to
have to deal with yet another server somewhere that is out of my
control.

Thanks,
Elmer.
