You're probably already aware of this service, but just in case this is new, here goes. Sometimes (like when you're prototyping a new application that deals with students; or if you would like to play around with data visualization tools like Tableau) it's really useful to have a bunch of random names and demographic information. There's a web-site for that: http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ .
It generates names and related information for several countries and language groups, and it does it for free (unless you want groups of names larger than 50,000). To get batches of fake names and information, click on the link "Order in Bulk" and follow the prompts. For a test application, I'm working on, I specified this as my order:
- Name sets: American
- Countries: United States
- Age range: 22 - 55 years old
- Gender: 50% male, 50% female
- Quantity: 500
They send you an email, you download a zipfile, and there you are. One of the really neat things about the service is that you are not limited to CSV files; you can request the data in a mysql or msql .sql file, for example.
