Friday Fun: Early Tuesday Musical Edition

I just sent the link out to the entire law library and to my wife over
at Duke. There may be some bare skin on the website somewhere, in fact
I would almost assume it given the nature of college humor, but there
isn't anything resembling porn in this clip.

Do many of the schools have porn filters? Our campus email spam filter
catches some, but to the best of my knowledge, nothing blocks browser
access. I recall talking to some students about looking at some
"questionable" sites when I used to work on the reference desk. It
turned out to be part of an assignment from Cyberspace Law. Filters like
this must make research difficult.

Elmer, it was really well done. Thanks for sharing it.

Steve

RE: Friday Fun: Early Tuesday Musical Edition

Samford has used these filters since the days when I was a student here and on 33.3 dialup access in the dorms. We used to run the filter and proxy servers ourselves, but offloaded that to or ISP a couple of years ago. There is a process, explained on the rest of the page that I didn’t screenshot, that one can request access to a site, or request it be unblocked, and those are handled on a case-by-case basis and as needed for assignments or research.

I was really just kidding at Elmer, as I know he would never promote anything with porn in it, and you are right, it is probably just the nature of the site it is on to have some slightly bare content. I have hit these filters doing error lookups on Google where the results are on a forum that once upon a time had an ad with some skin on it and it got blocked, so it can be frustrating.

No offense intended to anyone, especially Elmer.

Friday Fun: Early Tuesday Musical Edition

I knew Jeff was just funnin’ me, but College Humor does have some NSFW
material and it is easy to see how it could run afoul of filters. And
I still wnat to know what the GPORN designation means :)

RE: Friday Fun: Early Tuesday Musical Edition

GPORN appears to be just a category grouping on the filtering service, not a specific type of porn. It appears to be the default porn grouping that a site would be put in to be blocked due to pornographic content.

Friday Fun: Early Tuesday Musical Edition

So, what is GPORN? Anyway, I can totally assure everyone that the
video in question is not pornographic, unless you are a true fan of
the American musical, in which case you may be offended by the
shortness of the dance numbers.

its' only available by invitation at the moment.
