Open-source case management
A couple of years ago I asked about open-source case management
programs. Someone, it may have been Elmer, recommended something, and
now I can't remember what it was. :) Does anyone recall?
Thanks,
Tracey

I vaguely recall that it was me. AFAIK, the best open source solution
for Legal Aid types is Legal Case Management System.
;
. But it's been a couple of years since
I thoroughly studied what's out there in the way of open source case
management solutions.
At the time, there really wasn't much designed for law practices in
Anglo legal systems. The Italians seem to be much farther down the
road than the rest of the world on open source case management
systems.
Best regards,
Paul

I misspoke in the above paragraph. I should have limited my statement
to case management systems designed for commercial practice. I think
the system I pointed to might prove truly useful in a Legal Aid or law
school clinic/public interest law practice setting where billing
clients is not mission-critical.
The major problem with the better open source systems designed for
commercial practices is that their time and billing systems are
heavily geared toward Italian and E.U. legal and accounting standards.
We had a good start at remodeling one of them, Knomos, but the farther
we got into it the more apparent it was that it would be far easier to
build from scratch. About the same time of the realization, folks lost
interest in continuing the project (for other reasons).
Best regards,
Paul
Open-source case management
Thanks! I'll look into it.
