RE: Mac LION not printing to Windows print server

John,
Have you contacted Andy Charmatz at A.N.D. about this, since you are using Pcounter?

Subject: [teknoids] Mac LION not printing to Windows print server

Haven't found any solutions on the Internet yet, but one professor and three students have upgraded to LION on their Macs and they are now unable to print to our printers (Windows 2008 R2 print server, HP printers, PCounter), the job just goes to "paused". Have only seen references to SMBX, CUPS, use only 32-bit server, blah, blah, blah - none of that helps me. Anyone else hitting this problem? Any workarounds? Or is this now a "known issue" about LION? :)

Thanks,

RE: Mac LION not printing to Windows print server

I saw something similar in Pharos on Leopard. I switched the driver to Generic postscript and it seems to have solved the issue..

RE: Mac LION not printing to Windows print server

We are running into the same issue here. Here are 2 solutions I have
found online. I am yet to try them, but will let you know if 1 or both
work.

Apple OSX Lion 10.7 - Windows Network Printer

System Preferences --> Print & Scan

+ add printer

Click IP

Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LDP

Address: Enter IP address of Printer

Queue: Leave Blank

Name: Enter a name for the printer - Eg Max's Printer

Location: Enter the location - Eg Room Numner

Print Using- This should populate, if not choose an appropriate driver.

Click Add

Or try this one

You can add a printer using cups and it will be ok, just follow this
instructions:
1. Point Safari to http://localhost:631
2. Select top menu "Administration"
3. Select "Add Printer"
4. Authenticate if requested
5. Select "Windows printer via spoolss" and press "Continue"
6. Use the following sintaxe to add the printer
"smb://DOMAIN;LOGIN:PASSWORD@SERVER/PRINTQUEUE" in the "Connection"
field and press "Continue" (replace CAPITALS with your own
configuration)
7. Introduce a name in the "Name" field, for example MyPrinter
8. Select your printer Manufacturer from the "Make" list and press
"Continue"
8. Select your printer Model from the "Model" list and press "Add
Printer"

Mac LION not printing to Windows print server

The second option is doable right inside the printer interface for Mac.

I actually wrote up a guide for this for our students -- but I'm more than happy to share: https://www.fcsl.edu/it/wireless-printing

Thanks!
