RE: student printing
We implemented a Pay-for-Print system last year to reduce the amount of
wasted paper and toner. We also had problems with students printing out
enormous jobs that were unnecessary, then leaving the job without
cancelling it.
We supply the toner and paper, and we charge $0.03 per page printed, or
$0.02 if the document is double sided.
Each student has an account that they have to apply funds to in order to
print. Each incoming student gets 15 free pages in case they need to
print anything before they can purchase a Print Card.
The Print Cards are sold by Student Services, in $5.00 and $10.00
amounts. These cards have an ID number, that when entered into their
account, adds the appropriate value to their account, and invalidates
the card from any further use.
This has proved highly effective in reducing wasted supplies and
administration time, as well as educating the students on how to
determine what they need to print.
We are using PrintLimit Pro by GenevaLogic and we find it easy to use
and it has a great set of features.

Subject: [teknoids] student printing
Hello,
I'm conducting an informal survey of printer use & paper consumption at
law schools to better assess our expenses and would like to know the
following:
1) Do you provide printers & paper for your students?
2) If so, is it free or is there a fee?
3) If there's a fee, do you charge by the page or do you assess a
semester/annual technology fee?
4) Have you tried limiting the amount of printed pages each student is
allotted?
5) Any idea of the average amount of printouts per student?
A colleague of mine mentioned he may have seen a formal report on this
topic in recent years. If either of you are aware of this, I'd greatly
appreciate a link.
Thanks, Virginia
