Search Engine for Law School Sites?
I have a feeling this may be an old "asked and answered," but has anybody set up an engine that searches U.S. law school websites only (and all of them)? It would be handy for any number of comparative analysis type tasks.
Thanks,
Paul

Search Engine for Law School Sites?
Set one up on the CALI site years ago: http://www.cali.org/search/google
BTW, if anyone notices any problems with getting results from your
school, let me know and I'll fix it.

Search Engine for Law School Sites?
So did you enter every law school¹s site separately, or were you able to use
a pattern? I ask because I just discovered that although you can use
³site:.law.*.edu² in a standard Google search, it doesn¹t seem to work when
creating a Google Custom Search. The wildcard can only be at the end of the
site name. Maybe I¹m doing it wrong...

RE: Search Engine for Law School Sites?
That patter wouldn't necessarily get all the schools either, since our URL is http://cumberland.samford.edu.

Search Engine for Law School Sites?
Folks,
Thanks for all the updated URLs for the site. When I put the engine
together I just used the listings from AALS since it was the only
place I could find something that looked like a valid list of all law
school URLs in an easily scrappable list. Several of you have asked me
to include URLs for law libraries since they are often of a different
pattern than the law school's URL and not included. I think including
library URLs certainly adds value to the engine and I would like to
see everything associated with law schools represented in the search
engine.
As you might imagine locating and adding more resources to the CSE is
not a trivial task. Since my time to spend on this is limited and the
Google CSE interface allows me to add collaborators, I'm going to ask
for 2 or 3 volunteers to assist with making sure law libraries and
other law school programs and resources are included in the engine. If
you're interested in helping make this great resource even more
valuable, drop me an email off list.
Finally, y'all may want to check the ABA (http://u.cali.org/8dpe) and
AALS (http://u.cali.org/zzt7) lists since they are out of date. For
example Samford's site is listed on both lists as
http://www.samford.edu/schools/law.html which leads to a dead end on
the main Samford site. I have no idea how those lists get updated but
they are out of date and in need of an update.
Thanks,
Elmer.
Search Engine for Law School Sites?
I volunteer. I made a new list about 6 months ago. I'll send it when
I find it ;^)
I made a proposal to John to do an updated "Coding to Web Standards:
HTML5, CSS3, Acccessibility" session.

Used the list that AALS maintains (or used to) on its website. Hence
the occasional omission or discrepancy.

Search Engine for Law School Sites?
You can also use the list at the ABA site.
Whichever list you use, there are always mistakes.
Careful construction of the URL will lead to a higher level of
retrieval when people search for a law school or law library site.
Using a short URL may be a mistake if you want your site to be easily
found.
I have done two surveys of all US law school and law library web
sites, and am starting a third survey, and there is little consistency
in either the format of the URL or the title elements to pages.
