Searching the list archives + maybe a little help?
First, at the moment, the best way to search the archive of the list
is by heading to Google and doing a “site:teknoids.net student
printing” search. Substitute any one of a number of terms such as
“Windows 95”, “exam software”, or “laptop ban” for hours of historic
teknoids fun. Using this strategy you can indeed search all the way
back to the middle of 1997.
Second, the teknoids.net website is broken. While it is automatically
creating account for those who post to the list, it isn't doing a very
job. The user names are often obscure and darn near impossible to
discover. Also, even if you could log in, you still wouldn't be able
to search the list archive because that functionality is not set up on
the site.
And, finally, I’ve been fiddling around with the teknoids.net for just
about 10 years now, yanking it through a number of frameworks and
iterations, pretty much as a solo project. (Do note that the website
and the mailing list are 2 separate entities with the mailing list
living comfortably with Tom Bruce and LII.) CALI has provided
continuing financial support over the years including hardware and
bandwidth, but actually running the site has been just me. It would be
nice to have some help. There is ton of potential in the teknoids.net
website, but I just don’t have the time to put into it that it
deserves. So, if you know something about Drupal, and have an interest
in developing the community that powers the teknoids mailing list,
drop me a note off list.
FWIW, the list admin page tells me that as of this moment there are
799 subscribers to the teknoids mailing list. That is more than
double the number of just a few years ago. So the list grows and it
would be nice to grow the community too.
Thanks,
Elmer.
