Source for Monitor with integrated webcam and mic?

So about a year or two ago I started buying 23" Dell widescreen monitors with webcams/mics integrated for our faculty. They're pretty good and folks are very happy with them. I think I was paying right around $300 each with the speaker bar.

I bought one for every faculty member and some others for our support team as well as key staff.

Now I need another one … Just one. And I'm not having any success finding anything like this — regardless of manufacturer. I found ASUS has one that seems to be in production but there's no integrated mic.

This is becoming a much bigger project that I expected.

Any hints? I may even go refurb if there's a reliable source.

Thanks,

P.S. Our primary use is for Skype and our Cisco Voip system.

RE: Source for Monitor with integrated webcam and mic?

Phil,

This is interesting. We haven't made a camera standard desktop equipment yet (it's by request), but they are quickly becoming like soundcards - once a recreational addition but now as standard as a color display.

For the Cisco VoIP system, do you find that video calls are replacing phone calls internally? Can it be used with external users?
For Skype, is use just ad-hoc or is it part of some initiative? Is it widely used? Are either being integrated into instructional programs?

How are other schools approaching webcam proliferation?

RE: Source for Monitor with integrated webcam and mic?

Michael,

We were supposed to have our Cisco system up a few months back. It's now looking like it's in our future. A few of us have it up and running as part of the pilot here at the School of Law. Other portions of the university are fully migrated. Folks are using them for video calls but I wouldn't say that they have replaced regular phone calls. Probably once the entire university is converted we'll see more video calls.

My personal experience with Cisco's CUPC on my iMac is that I find the application unhelpful. I look forward to the next release of the Mac software. The PC folks can do all kinds of fun stuff.

We see more Skype use all the time but we have no formal initiative behind that. However we do have an enterprise license for Elluminate which a number of folks are using pretty for virtual office hours. Our clinical law program is probably our heaviest user group on a consistent basis – conferencing in with externs around the country.

The webcam hanging on the screen was a fine solution but they seemed to get lost frequently. The monitors tend to stay put better (locked down with the PC — yes, we could have locked down the webcams too, never did though ;-)

Best,

Phil

Source for Monitor with integrated webcam and mic?

Phil,

Is a notebook style webcam on top of a plain 23" monitor that much of an eyesore? If I had to have one exact match for member if the faculty, my support staff would swap theirs out for the replacement unit.

Source for Monitor with integrated webcam and mic?

Yep. We're fixin' to do just that. As a matter of fact, I've had three
volunteers already.

I'm not going to die on this hill. Just want what I want if I can get it.

Thanks,

Phil
