Tablet for mobile systems adminstration

Folks,
I find myself in need of a tablet that will allow me to manage my
servers from pretty much anywhere and I'm looking for suggestions.
Most of the important servers are in the Amazon cloud. Most of the
administration is done through a web browser (lots of javascript,
HTML5) and an ssh client using private keys. We use Verizon for cells,
so the tablet (or netbook) should run there for 3/4G access but
include wifi for office/home use.
Certainly an iPad2 will do the trick, but is there something out there
in Android land that fits the bill? What about a netbook or chrome
book?

Thanks,
Elmer.

I'm a little late to this conversation, but I am pretty happy with the Sony
Tablet S. I use LogMeIn for managing digital signs, but there are plenty
of administrative apps for Android that I could use if needed for my web
server or desktop. The keyboard is quite useful on the Sony, and has a
10-key which I use frequently. An added benefit for anyone with A/V needs
is the IR blaster accompanied with a very easy universal remote app. It is
currently Wi-Fi only in the US, so it won't meet your Verizon 3G needs
though. In a pinch, I usually tether it to my phone.

Hey Elmer,

I've got a Xoom, but wifi only. It does come in 3/4g, but I have no
experience with it. The default browser seems to be able to handle a
fair amount of javascript & html5. Get the Hackers Keyboard app for a
useable keyboard. I've been really happy with connectbot for ssh.

An iPad2 with our VPN client, iTap RDP, and iSSH works fairly well for
my purposes, though having an external keyboard helps immensely (the
on-screen takes up an inordinate amount of screen real estate in the RDP
client). Of course, I do very little Web-based administration, and what
little I do is done on a PC I access via RDP, so I couldn't really speak
to that.

As far as keyboards for the iPad 2, Newegg is selling reconditioned
Zagg/Logitech keyboard-cases for $50 with free shipping, instead of the
normal $100 for the new ones. http://bit.ly/rYkYIK

I really like my Kensington for my iPad but one problem; no right shift key.

That's a real issue if I have to type anything of consequence. Somehow the up arrow (where the right shift would be) just isn't the same...

Maybe I can remap?

If you are going to use the iPad, I highly recommend iSSH for admin tasks
- ssh, rdp, and vnc all in one bundle, along with some slick key management
and keyboard shortcut features. On android, I've used connectbot and been
happy with it.
