Using alternative interfaces for creating stuff

I'm wondering if anyone is taking a serious look at any alternative interfaces for creating documents?  For example, if this works, this message was written using the ScribeFire extension in Firefox, connected through XMLRPC to the Drupal engine that powers teknoids.net.  Once posted to the forum on teknoids.net it is passed along to the teknoids mailing list by a couple of Drupal modules, listhandler and mailhandler.  So, it is possible to communicate with teknoids without using Outlook:)Anyhow, I am interested in knowing if anyone is looking at the possibilities this sort of thing opens up in the areas of collaboration and sharing and ease of creation.Thanks,Elmer.
