summer fun? - test the new CALI website registration system

Submitted by jmayer on Tue, 07/17/2007 - 3:41pm.

Hi Folks,

We're rolling out a new, streamlined website registration system next
week. If you want to do me a personal favor - for which I would be
eternally grateful - go to...

http://www.dev.cali.org

... and try registering.

Use an email address like xyz@cali.org - don't use test.com or anyhting
like that (I learned that the people at test.com were getting all my
test emails - OOOOPS!)

If you find any problems or have any suggestions, comments, complaints,
etc., let me know.

Regards,
John

Good question.

I realize that this might seem to be the case, but it really isn't. I
was looking for a graphic or photo to put on the page where the user was
having a problem logging in or registering for some reason. I looked
through istockphoto.com. I wanted to sympathize with the user - do more
than just provide a cold error message and so I thought a photo that
demonstrate we understood their frustration would be useful.

After looking at zillions of pictures of frustrated students or business
people, they all seemed sooooo ... negative. I wanted to lighten it up
a bit, so I got the idea of looking for cute babies - who were a little
frustrated. Found some remarkable pictures - too many - so I coded it
so that there are a dozen different pictures and they semi-randomly
appear (actually, it's based on the system clock of the server).

I think some people will have the reaction you describe, but there's not
much we can do. Others who might have gotten really frustrated, might
be less so - that's the goal.

Perhaps I am overthinking this?
