This ruling came out at the end of last week --

NORFOLK -- The music industry has won a federal judge's approval to seek the
names of 20 College of William and Mary students who it claims illegally
shared songs over the Internet.

U.S. District Judge F. Bradford Stillman ruled today that the Recording
Industry Association of America could subpoena the students' names.

Stillman reversed an earlier ruling by former U.S. District Judge Walter D.
Kelley Jr., who had denied the industry group's request.

The group says it plans to sue the students for copyright infringement.

Nationwide, the music industry has sued more than 30,000 people for illegal
downloading.

The industry group has reached settlements with seven other William and Mary
students who agreed to pay $3,000 to $5,000.
