Printing Charges

ALL:

We are adding a duplex printer to our student printing lab. There has been some
discussion on if we should charge differently (less) for those students who
print duplex or if the charge should be the same as if they had printed
non-duplex.

Stuff for eLangdell

Folks,
We're at the point with eLangdell where we need some content. So far
we've loaded (with permission of course) Green, Nesson & Murray:
Evidence found here,
http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k9840, into eLangdell,
browsable at http://w.cali.org/elangdell/nesson (go ahead take a look
and come back. You may want to login with your CALI web credentials
to get the full effect.).

Right, now you're thinking, so you moved stuff from one site to
another, so what? Well, once into eLangdell the material becomes
building blocks, allowing faculty to do things like make copies of the
material that they can edit or build syllabi around the material or
mix it with other material of their own. All kinds of possibilities
open up. It isn't just a static website anymore.

So, I'm thinking that other schools may have similar sorts of
collections of educational materials in HTML that they may be willing
to share to help us get eLangdell ramped up. Problems, articles,

Is there a query for this?

I have a MS Sql table with about 3600 records, one field of which is
"FHFL," which is a case number. I am trying to figure out which case
numbers in a given range are missing. Is there a make-table query that
will return a list of numbers that are missing in a given range of
numbers? The numbers are 5-digit numbers like 15001, 15002, etc., but
the field type is text.

I can certainly copy the table and change the field type to numeric if
that will help, but I'm a real noob when it comes to queries. I usually
view and edit the records in Access, but I also have access to Sql
Enterprise Manager.

Thanks!

Tracey

LII Citer pre-release review request

All e-citation-seekers:

The LII has been consolidating and refining the regex it uses for
generating links in its auto-processed documents, and we thought we
should share a spin-off that may be of use to legal researchers.

A very preliminary sample of what we would like to have eventually may
be found at the following URL:
http://hula.law.cornell.edu/citer/

We are looking for initial impressions and major problems encountered,
to get us to the point of something releasable as a general use tool.
You should anticipate the page being updated often. "Citer" is a work in
progress among friends. It is currently hosted on our development
server, so do not expect production consistency or reliability.

The initial scope is deliberately very narrow while we are in proof of
concept mode. We hope to quickly add some of the scope and quality
mentioned on the introductory page, and are already looking at a scope
inspired by analysis of the Cardiff database of abbreviations.

xerox v. HP

I need to buy a new workgroup printer. I am looking
at the HP 9040dn with the 2000 sheet media tray and the Xerox 5500DT.
The Xerox is almost $400 less expensive (about 10%).

Has anyone had any good or bad experience recently with Xerox or HP
workgroup printers? How about local service? I know that Carolina
Copy is now using Xerox machines.

Thanks.
Recommendations for Children's Activity Blocker

One of our professors is looking to install software, such
as Cybersitter on his machine to block inappropriate sites from being shown to
his children. They just got into high school and he is concerned they
might go to the wrong sites. Does anyone recommend a particular product
for this?
